I am running XP pro and I have had trouble when I try and defragment any of
my hard drives. For every drive I try to defrag I get an unable to
initialize error. Is the software corrupt or maybe something running I can
shut down??? Any suggestions ?
Chris

Better Still it doesn't work in safe mode either. No what. I tried and
downloaded disk keeper and that won't let me defrag either. Hmmmmmmmmm....
Suggestions?

I have a few more ! Run a bootup disk check by right clicking the drive and
selecting error check . Do a disk cleanup prior to trying defrag again. Run
sfc , Start > run > sfc /scannow , (note space between c and /) if no joy
.. This will check for missing system files .
An if it will still will not cooperate read this expert link . Good Luck ,
Jym
