"Unable to Connect"

I have 4 windows xp pro sp1 machines with all hot fixes applied. I have a
shared printer on one of the pcs which has the correct manufacturer drivers
installed, I have installed the printer onto the 3 other pcs and all pcs are
able to print.
I get an strange problem, for apparently no reason what so ever the 3 pcs
which connect to the shared printer report that they are "unable to connect"
to the shared printer.
If a reboot is performed on the pc sharing out the printer then the others
connect without problem, and will work correctly for a couple of hours after
which they will report that they are "unable to connect" again which stops
all printing.
I have tried installing the printer onto another one of the machines and I
receive the same issue..

If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated.

Rob is there a chance the computer actting as the print
sever is going in standby or Hibernating?
 
No someone is working on the pc, hibernation and power saving options have
been disabled .
If it helps the problems seem to have started since the hot fixes where
installed.
Although I am abit reluctant to remove them.

I have the exact same problem, and it is only with my XP
computer sharing a printer and a 98 box trying to connect
to it. The 98 box can connect to any other shared printer
on the network (all others are 98 too) but when I try to
connect to the xp box I get "printer offline", when I look
in my network neighborhood, the xp computer is listed but
I cannot open it, it replies " \\computer is not
accessible The logon server cannot be found" But if I
explore it I get the same error message but after I close
it, I can see the drive contents. VERY frustrating....

Just one question - do you have all the same user names and passwords (as well as the appropriate priveleges) assigned on each and every computer? Since it's just four PC's, I doubt you're running a domain, and for one computer to authenticate a user from another computer, it needs to have all of the user names and passwords that the other computers do. If you have not put all of the users and passwords onto each and every computer, it will be unable to authenticate you, and your connection will be refused (as is happening now). So if the computer that is acting as the print server does not have the username and password of the user trying to connect to it, it won't connect. Make certain that it has them; same goes for computers running SMB shares. Hope this helps

On my network we have a SBS2K running a domain, and both
users log onto the domain. I just tried from a different
computer running xp :I could connect. A different
computer running 98 I could NOT connect. I tried
connecting from my server :no problem. The problem is
certainly with one of the hotfixes and a compatibility
issue with 98. Any suggestions?
