Hi,

I used to be able to connect from my work to my home office computer via
Terminal Services. However, after recently rebooting my home computer, I
can no longer connect to it.

I have verified:

* no port blockage at my ISP
* port 3389 open on my firewall
* the Terminal Services service is running on my home computer
* i can telnet <my domain name> 3389 and get a connection
* port forwarding is working in my firewall - i can see the connection to
3389 in the fw log
* control panel --> system --> remote tab: both check boxes are checked

When I try to connect to my home computer, I get the error dialogue:

The remote connection has timed out. Please try connecting to the remote
computer again.

The help for Remote Desktop Connection states 1) you didn't send a response
quick enough, or 2) you might have network connection issues. I never
receive the login prompt, and I have a high speed DSL connection.

I'm stumped. Any ideas how I might fix this problem? I've rebooted about 7
times, no joy. Lastly, is it normal for the Terminal Service service to be
started, but unable to be bounced? The stop/start/restart/etc options are
all grayed out.

Thanks heaps!

Scott

Did you setup the WEP on your firewall? You are talking
about terminal service, you do have the service running on
your server, why are you not using remote control? Your
question would probably get a better responce in the
networking portion of XP.

Yes, I setup WEP, but I'm not connecting via wireless. I've got a Netgear
FM114P combined router/hub/firewall/print server/wireless access point
device. My home computer is connected to the router/hub via cat5 cable. I
really don't think it's a networking problem. I suppose I can run a TCP
view client on the box to see activity on port 3389 but, as mentioned, I see
the router/firewall log allowing the connection request to port 3389, and
forwarding the request to the proper internal IP address.

My first preference for newsgroup posting was one of the specific terminal
services groups, but they are only for win2000 and winnt. IMO there should
be one created for winxp. I'm open to additional/proper newsgroups to post
to, but I don't think it's a networking problem. My guess is the terminal
services service is stuffed somehow, but I'm stumped on how to debug it
further.
