Hi

I recently had a new hard drive put into my pc, and XP reinstalled, but now
my keyboard layout has changed slightly and I can't figure out how to alter
it. When I try to type " by holding down SHIFT + 2, I get a @ instead. Also
when I try to type @ by typing SHIFT and ' I get " instead. I went into
control panel/Keyboard but there was no input locales tab. How can I change
this?

many thanks John

John,

Correct me if I'm wrong but when you say "When I try to type " by holding
down SHIFT + 2, I get a @", this is the correct key stroke (at least on my
Gateway keyboard) using the U.S. default keyboard settings.

In the 'Control Panel > Regional & Language Options > Languages > Details',
check these settings. You should have 'English' & 'U.S.' installed, maybe
you had another language set prior to reinstalling WinXP?

If you have another language set, you are then able to change these
keystrokes to the ones you mentioned in your post. I don't believe this can
happen using the English & US language setting (grayed out). Anyway, check
these language settings.

Thanks Drew

yes that solved it. It was set to US and not UK keyboard. I went into
Details and changed the keyboard to UK English and now my keyboard is back to
normal.

many thanks

John,

Glad to hear that.
