Hello!
I'm trying to change my home page on IE6, Windows XP.
When clicking Internet Options, I receive a message that
states:
"operation cancelled due to restrictions placed on this
computer. Please contact your system administrator."

Well......... I am the only user of this home computer. I
also went to the control panel, attempting access that way
to Internet Options, but when I click on options, the area
to change the home page is grey and non-clickable.

I poked around security settings, specifically the
firewall that came with XP. Firewall is enabled, but I
don't see anything limiting the changing of my homepage.

Finally, I have Spybot protecting my computer, and thought
perhaps something there was limiting my ability to change
my homepage, but again, I couldn't find any options to
change.

Help??

Thanks bunches.

Do you have more than one user account listed(like a
guest account)? If not go to Start>>>My
Computer>>>Right Click on the C
drive>>>properties>>>sharing tab>>>uncheck the boxes for
sharing files>>>apply>>>OK>>>then restart your
computer, then try again to change your homepage.

Problem Fixed! It was a Spybot problem. I poked around
on the spybot website a bit more, and discovered under
the "immunize" button, there were "recommended
miscellaneous locks", that were locking my ability to
change my Internet options. I unchecked them, and
everything is working just fine. Just figgered I would
pass along that info on the chance someone else runs into
this same situation.

Jude,

In Spybot, look at Tools - IE tweaks, and see if you checked "Lock IE control
panel".

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
