I have Windows XP home and I put it into hibernation.
When I tried to reboot I got a black screen with 2 options
to be highlighted. One states "delete restoration data
and proceed to system boot menu" and below that
is "continue with system restart". The problem is that
the keyboard and mouse then do not function. I looked up
the problem at Microsofts' help site and it gave
directions on how to start the system restore tool if
Windows does not start utilizing the F8 key when the boot
menu came up. It did not work however. I tried
disconnecting the computer but no luck. Any suggestions?

Try this. At the start of reboot enter your CMOS BIOS setup. Most
computers will go there if you hit the "Delete" key when reboot starts.
Once there, hunt around for an option to enable your keyboard during startup
(don't remember the exact wording, it may refer to DOS, but it should be
the only thing in the setup menu referring to enabling the keyboard). Save
changes and reboot.
