Hello,

I have just installed XP Pro over my existing XP Home
Edition. The install was successful and the registration
of the product completed OK. I tried to download and
apply the Service Pack 1 update through the Window Update
application. When trying to apply the Service Pack I
received the message that the key was not valid. I
purchased the software off the Internet from a company
selling OEM copies of Windows products.

Please can anyone help me, from the following
information, if I have received a pirated copy and if so,
am I able to get a valid key?

CD-KEY: FCKGW-RHQQ2-YXRKT-8TG6W-2B7Q8

My registration key on the System Properties General
panel displays - 55274-640-0000356-23392

Thank you.

Sounds like you got ripped off. Many pirates sell "oem" versions with
pirated keys and that sounds like what you got. You're only option is to buy
a real license or copy of xp from a reputable source, like your local
computer store.

If you are getting the following error message when attempting to update to SP1:

Error Message: The Product Key Used to Install Windows Is Invalid
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;326904&Product=winxp

You'll have to purchase a new "Full Version" of Windows XP Professional
and perform a "Repair Install" using the new Windows XP Pro CD and Product Key
that comes with it. (You cannot simply change the Product Key)

A quick look on Google finds that key mentioned quite a lot in posts from
people with pirate copies of XP...Draw your own conclusions about the 'OEM
copy' you were sold.

Thank you.

Goto Google Groups and search for FCKGW-RHQQ2-YXRKT-8TG6W-2B7Q8 and take a
look at all the results.
It's one of the CD-Keys that i believe was an XP Corporate Edition that was
MASS pirated.
So many people used this CD-Key to install XP that SP1 recognises it and
will not install.

Your options are as previously posted - pay out for a legal copy of XP.
Or browse Google for the various workarounds to install SP1 and continue
using your pirated copy of XP!

Greetings --

If you are trying to install Service Pack 1a and getting the
following:

The Product Key Used to Install Windows Is Invalid
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q326904

You need to purchase and use a _legitimate_ full retail copy of
WinXP Pro to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation,
using the new CD and Product Key.

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade of Windows XP

Remember, you should also report whomever sold you the pirated
software to the pertinent law enforcement agencies; you've been
defrauded.

There are programs out there which do let you change the registration
key to one that work with SP1.

Not that I'd recommend doing that.
