When I try to connect to a computer on my LAN, I get the error: "The
folder you entered does not appear to be valid. Please choose
another."

I get this even though I am entering the address for the network
location correctly (in the form):

\\192.168.1.101\sharename

Although the MS knowledgebase and various websites explain that you
must include the full name of the share at the end, I am already doing
so, so that is not the cause of the error.

Entering this same information in on another one of my Windows
machines allows me to connect with no problem.

I have verified that (as far as I know) all of the services required
to make this connection are running. I also rebooted just for the fun
of it. That didn't help.

What could be causing this problem? How can I resolve it?

Check your firewall settings. It sounds to me as if a computer that should
be in your 'trusted zone' isn't.
