unable to access windows update catalog

1)at personalize windows update, checked box to show link
under "see also", clicked save settings. But does not save
and does not show link under "see also". Went to catalog
directly, clicked my OS, but page showed 0 beside all
catalog entries. Would not display update catalog items.

2)attempt to open pre-installed Wild Tangent games,
recieve IE Script error-"object does not support this
property or method". Have updated and reinsalled IE and
Java and game channel. No reults.
