There is at least 1 web site I cannot access, and maybe
more,I was able to access it about 10 days ago, but not
since then, but only 1 that I know of. I have read
everything I can read, and I have done a "Ping", and that
seems to be fine.If anyone can help I would appreciate it.
When I try I get the following message:

The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The
Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or
you may need to adjust your browser settings.

Please try the following:

Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make
sure that it is spelled correctly.

To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu,
and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab,
click Settings. The settings should match those provided
by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet
service provider (ISP).
If your Network Administrator has enabled it, Microsoft
Windows can examine your network and automatically
discover network connection settings.
If you would like Windows to try and discover them,
click Detect Network Settings
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the
Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to
determine what strength security you have installed.
If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your
Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu,
and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab,
scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL
2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
Click the Back button to try another link.

Cannot find server or DNS Error
Internet Explorer

I did all the things in this response and I see nothing
wrong, I have no security blocks, and I do not even have
any anti virus programs in place, since I keep crashing if
I have them.

If you can help please e mail me, as I have no idea who to
contact, and believe it is the browser, I have IE 6 and
Netscape 7.1.

Check for a file named HOSTS with no extension (not Hosts.sam). It may be a
hidden file. Open it with Notepad and remove any line referencing the site.
Or, rename HOSTS to OLDHOSTS

Not the OP, but I've seen this hosts file referenced before.

I have a hosts.sam, lmhosts.sam, hosts.sbs, and several hosts.exm
files-- but none without extensions.

Is this file OS specific, or does it come from some installed
software? [I'm using Win98SE & IE6 -- and they are working fine, I'm
just curious.]

Jim

No, it's not OS specific, although different OSs will have it in different
places. It can be useful for blocking sites by setting them to 127.0.0.1
(Your local machine).
