unable to access certain websites

i am suddenly unable to access any websites that require a
password, e.g. my credit cards , bank account, hotmail,
etc. all other internet use is fine, but when i go to one
of the above sites and type in my password, it gives me
the "site cannot be reached" message. it is that way with
all of these sites and only these sites. did some of my
security settings get messed up or something? whats up?
