Hiya

I have a valid key for XP home original release (OEM GOLD) but I cannot
locate the original media..

can I take a OEM XP Home with integrated SP1 and remove the SP1 to use it as
XP Gold install ?

thanks!

No, slipstreaming is one way. But you can use the slipstreamed media
with your keys. Works just fine.

Maybe, maybe not. What OEM is on the sticker? And what OEM is the CD?

the retailer I bought the computer from says that all the systems (that i
have) are an OEM generic original version
no service packs

he will install the image no charge ...but I am trying to find the proper
media for restore purposes ..etc.

I guess I'll have to get the image installed and then work towards an image
from that..

thks for chiming in :>

If your CD is the generic OEM version, it will accept the keys of
whatever the sticker says. But you WILL have to activate over the
phone. STAY on the line for a human.Just tell them that you are using a
retail disk on a X brand product key. Answer all qustions truthfully,
and you'll be blessed with an activated copy of XP. Some people say you
can't do this. But I've been through the procedure enough times to know
you CAN. The Indians are friendly.

Whether or not you have a slipstreamed disk doesn't affect thes.

the business I got the computer from gave me a key but "forgot" to put the
proper image on the HD.

I am trying to avoid a trip back to them...so I thought if I could find a
copy of the media I needed ...

thks!
