hi all.
Recently tried to delete all non important emails in the usual fashion but
since then some of the emails / recipitents / addresses got all mixed up!!!
Since removing as much as possible i am left with over a dozen emails that
will not delete as it says 'message could not be displayed' then 'an unknown
error has occured'.
Could do with some help please as still learning!
thanx

Shawn, it is customary in newsgroups to quote at least a snippet
of the post you are responding to.

Hi, Jojo.

This sounds like a job for...WMUtil! ;^)

Go to MVP Steve Cochran's website, download the file, and run it (click
Repair Database):
http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/

This kind of problem is why many of us have migrated to the Windows Live
Mail beta (current version is 12.0.1184). It's not perfect (yet), but the
database seems to be more stable already than in the WM included in Vista.

If you want to read about WLM:
http://get.live.com/betas/maildesktop_betas

The support newsgroup for WLM is:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop

(The word "desktop" was deleted from the name of the program, but it still
is in the newsgroup name.)

Your link sent me to a web interface which is entirely different from
a newsgroup (NNTP) interface. On the web, you see all the posts
of a given thread together. Most of us who use news readers
have them configured to not display previously read posts. Hence
the need to see at least a portion of what is being responded to.

I recognize the nuisance problem of scrolling through long quotes,
which is why I usually
a) top post
b) trim off unnecessary parts.

Brink,
Thank you so much for your information! I spent most of the day online with
Dell and Comcast as to what was going on. It fixed it right up - even though
I was nervous to do this - it was easy.

Thanks!

I've read a lot of stuff on this problem over the past couple of hours, and
not my first time with this particular problem. Best resolve I've found to
date is:

Right Click on "Deleted Items" folder
Left Click on "Empty Deleted Items Folder"
Left Click "Yes".

This has worked for me on both Deleted and Junk folders. Tedious, but
simple, and it's worked for me 4 times now. Nothing new or better seems to
have come on line that works any better or simpler. There has got to be
something I'm doing to make my system bomb like this, and I've tried to keep
it clean, but I continue to screw it up somehow. If only we could get
Microsoft to address/fix this bug!

Sorry folks, I left our an important step,

Right Click on "Deleted Items" folder
Left Click on "Empty Deleted Items Folder"
Left Click "Yes
REPEAT REPEAT REPEAT

It'l take a while, but they all seem to go away eventually.

Shawn,
Many thanks for the response. My AV is ZoneAlarm. No Norton or McAfee. I
do compact every opprotunity offered. I'll look into the other options
you've offered and sincerely appreciate your time and input. I thought I was
doing all this alone till I found out how to use the "Community". I'm still
learning, a LOT, but trudging through with more confidence daily. This Vista
is a new breed and it's like learning all over again. Bad habits die hard.
Now if I can get the "community" to accept my profile so I don't have to
"long hand" all my issues and submissions. Oh well, time doth heal.
Thanks again
Leo
