UDNT service failure

My computer has recently had a problem where it will
either reboot or show a solid blue screen (with no text
or anything, just solid blue) unexpectedly. The event
viewer says:

The UDNT service failed to start due to the following
error: The system cannot find the file specified.

every single time this happens. The thing is, there is no
UDNT service when I scroll through XP's list of services,
else I could disable it. I have heard of this EXACT error
and problem on windows 2000 machines when a Umax scanner
has been installed, and I have installed (and removed) a
Umax scanner, except I am running windows XP! I have
tried many things, but nothing has worked, including
patches, etc that supposedly fix this problem on a Umax
scanner. Also, I have as thorougly as possible removed
the scanner/software, but is still has problems.

Please help, JDS.

From a previous post:

It applies to Umax scanners with the Vistascan driver.

If the scanner is not switched on when the computer boots the UDNT service
cannot start and records the error.

You can see the service status in Device Manager if you enable "Show hidden
devices" from the View menu.
