David

I am trying to set up two windows xp computers onto a new
network. I ran the wizards on both computers, but they do
not see each other in the workgroup, nor do the pings
find each other "request timed out". one of the computers
is a brand new installation of win xp pro. I diasabled
norton on the other. and the first does not have any
firewall installed. please help thankx

David,

Norton (Internet Security?) firewall has been known to not respond properly when
disabled. Try this:
1) Re enable Norton. Configure it to allow file and printer sharing by opening
the following ports. TCP 139, 445; UDP 137, 138, 445.
2) Un install it totally, using all procedures provided by Symantec.

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
