I know how it got there, just don't know how to get rid of it. I know I need
to go to "Start", "Control Panel", etc until I get to the actual wording.
Could anyone tell me what should be worded there. I don't have a copy of what
it says on mine (I'm at work), but I do remember seeing "multi (0)........,
and something like "opint", "WINDOWS". Sorry theres not more. If anyone could
help, I could get a copy of it by tomorrow.

Control Panel > System > Advanced > 3rd Settings button

You looks like did not perform a clean install?, you did is install on
another partition so this why you ended up with two Operating system
(Multiple Boot of the same OS).
When logged in Right click " My Computer" Icon and select properties from
the drop down list.
Click on Advanced Tab then click on Settings Button under StartUp and
Recovery, then click on Edit and see what Line of operating system you want
to select, the final product should look like this:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

Note: Please make note of the Operating system You want to keep or the one
is functioning oky then Remove the line from the Boot.ini.
Also you can do this:
Open a run command and type in:
msconfig click [OK] on the System Configuration window click Boot.INI Tab,
then click [ Check All Boot Paths ..] button and edit from there to remove
the line for the unwanted Operating system.

Best if you performed the installation again by deleting all the partitions
and create a new one (s) and install, read here:

Do both entries work, or just one of them?

If only one of them actually works then use Start - Run - MSCONFIG. Go
to the BOOT.INI tab and click on the "Check all boot paths..." button.

Good luck
