Two Windows installations.

This is a two-parter:

I installed a new printer (drivers, etc) and now when i start my computer, it will boot up, get to the windows start up screen (with the animated status bar), then i see a flash of blue screen with some code on it, and my computer restarts. The only way I can load windows is to have the Recovery CD in my CD drive when I load windows. I tried uninstalling all the software and drivers that came with my printer, but that didn't do anything. I tried to re-install windows, but that just led to another problem...

.... I now seem to have Windows XP installed twice on my computer (when I start my computer it asks me which one to run). One of the options brings me to my familiar windows desktop, the other brings me to one with nothing on the desktop (save a recycle bin), and no shortcuts to any of my old programs. My original Windows installation still won't load unless I have the Recovery CD in my drive.

can someone help?

you could try pressing your F8 key while original O/S is loading This should bring up a screen that has several choices on it one of which is start in safe mode. Click this and you may get in. If your sucessful click Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore and return your system to a state before you first installed the printer. This should work. If not you can try a Hard shut down while the computer is starting to boot the system. This as well can cause the screen I mentioned earlier to come up the next time you start the system.

Good Luck!

Well, I tried system restore (don't know why the idea of using that before escaped me), and while it did get rid of the startup screen asking me to select which installation of Windows to use, it didn't do much else (and, in fact introduced some other problems/annoyances, too, that I had gotten rid since the last restore point before installing the printer).

Thanks anyway.
