I wanted to reload XP on my computer. Did not pay too much attention to the
choices. I put another copy of it on the C drive. Now when booting up I have
a screen that asks which version to load. The old one has all my software
working fine, but the new XP has nothing listed and won't even allow me to
use my dual moniters. What can I do to get rid of the extra XP on C drive.
There are not 2 windows folder and the hard drive has not added any
partitions. Thanks for any advice, I do not want to format and start over.
Just get rid of the extra XP choice and the screen that shows up on boot up.

Hi pes,

Go to Start > Run and type: msconfig
Then go to the Boot.ini tab and click on check all Boot paths. If you
receive a warning about a duplicate path: Do you want to remove,
choose yes.

Or...

Right click the My Computer icon/Properties/Advanced/Startup and
Recovery/Settings/System Startup/Edit.

Good luck, hope this helps

Roger..thanks for your advise it had one of the areas needed to fix my 2
versions of XP on the C drive. I used your example of "Right click the My
Computer icon/Properties/Advanced/Startup and
Recovery/Settings/System Startup/Edit." The boot loader showed 2 different
programs to choose from on start up. One was Windows the other was WinNT. I
always thought a Windows folder held the files I need to run XP. But on
examining my C drive I found that WinNT had my old setting and XP that
worked fine. Another folder called Windows had the date that I loaded the
new XP version that caused the trouble. I del that folder (windows) left the
winnt, then removed a line in the boot loader file you told me about and
poof all is working. Thanks for your help.
