Hello all, Great website by the way.

Here are my two questions / problems.

1) Why does my desktop have a black desktop instead of showing my
desktop picture? This happened once before and I didnt know how to fix
it, and it eventualy fixed itself.

2) Will increasing the screen resolution ware down the graphics chard?
I currently have it at 1280 by 720 pixels. I actualy like it this way,
but if its bad on a graphics card then I will change it back to
something smaller. Maybe I'm just being paranoid. My graphics card is a
Nvidia GeForce FX 5500 250MB card.

Thanks guys.

Hi, If you can actually have it at 1280 by 720 and you card shows it, that
mean there is no problem, but if your scrren is flikering or dark you need to
change it.

Hello all, Great website by the way.

This is not a website. You are using the web interface to Usenet
newsgroups, which is the worst way you can access these groups. At the
end of this post, I'll give you information about a better way.

I don't know since I don't know what you did, but first go to the
Display applet in Control Panel. Now click on the Web tab. You will see
that there are checkmarks next to "My Current Home Page" and probably
"Lock Desktop Items". Uncheck these. Now see if you can put on a
desktop picture.

If that doesn't work, then post back and tell us if you have any
third-party theming programs like WindowBlinds installed. Also tell us
the virus/malware status of the computer.

No, increasing the screen resolution will not wear out your graphics
card. However, you need to set a resolution that your monitor can
handle. If you have an LCD (flat panel) monitor, it has a native
resolution and things will look best at that. If you have a CRT
monitor, don't set the resolution to something too high.

Here is information about accessing these groups by using a newsreader.
There are many good newsreaders for Windows, but you can use Outlook
Express since you already have it. Here are some links to information
