Hello --

I have two HP printers that each connect to my computer
via USB cables. They were getting along fine until
yesterday, when I started getting error messages to the
effect that I need to install a printer before I can print
(even though both printers appeared in my Printers and
Faxes folder). I also got error messages about not having
a printer spooling service.

Working with HP today, I got one of the printers running
again. The technician said that often, it doesn't work out
to have two printers connected by USB cables -- somehow
you get a conflict under Windows. There's no way I can
change either printer to a parallel cable. Do I have to
get rid of one and replace it with a printer that has a
parallel cable or is there some Windows solution?

By the way, in order to get my laser printer running
again, after running MSCONFIG, we unchecked the box for
machine debug manager (Services). Will there be any dire
results from doing this?

Thank you!

Of course you can have two USB printers... three if you really want.

The printer spooler service seems to have stopped.... from the command
prompt, type

net start spooler

(and hit enter)

Now you should be able to print again... at least you would have been, but
after HP's so-called 'support', I have no idea what they might have had you
do to your PC!

Thanks for your response, Cari.

You said, "From the command prompt, type...." Uh, what
command prompt? Where?

Thanks,
Susan

type CMD under START/RUN
there's your command prompt!
type EXIT command when done to close it

i have the same problem. i tried restarting my print spooler on the cmd but i get this message "dependency service or group failed to start" hellppppppp..

Aha... the infamous Lexmark problem.

Disconnect the printer from the PC.... follow the instructions at Bruce
Sanderson's website... paying particular attention to his last paragraph on
Lexmark printers.

http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm

After the cleanup, reboot. Download a new set of drivers from Lexmark
(www.lexmark.com)..... install the software and do NOT reconnect the printer
until the software tells you to do so.
