Two NICs / Two Networks / One Machine

Here's the situation: I have both DSL (pokey 800k) and Cable (2500k, usually) broadband modems in my SOHO. I'd like to have both of these hooked up, not to run in a "Dual WAN" mode, but in an "either/or" mode

Is this possible

In the Network Connections folder:

1. Right click and Enable the connection that you want to use.
2. Right click and Disable the connection that you don't want to use.

Is it possible in this situation to have both connections active at the same time
For example, I also have DSL and Cable. I would like to VPN over the DSL link, but use the Cable for personal email, etc. at the same time

Yes, it's possible, provided that:

1. There's no default gateway specified on the VPN/DSL connection.
The default gateway, which is used to access Internet sites, must be
on the cable connection.

2. You get permission from the administrator of the network that
you'll connect to using VPN. Some companies have a policy against
connecting to their network via VPN and to the Internet
simultaneously. That can be a security risk, because the Internet
connection is outside the company firewall.
