When I open a particular workbook, it automatically opens two instances of it - .xls1 and .xls2. They apper to be the same. I can close one or the other and continue working. Changes are saved to both. How do I get it to stop opening two instances?

Rowdy,

Sounds like you have opened a new window. Just close one of the windows and
save the file, it should be okay in future.

Go to the WB that displays .xls2 -
Do a <Ctrl> W
It should have changed the .xls2 to .xls1
This means that you have closed .xls2
Immediately do a <Save>
And you're done !
