Except to attempt to fool(steal) WPA (which you can't) why would you want to
do this?

Hello everyone,
Can someone tell me how to get two hard drives to work??? I want to
install a 80gb and a 20 gab on the same computer, I want to then transfer
the
OS and the info and files from the 20 gab to the 80gb, then format the 20gb
and remove it. Then reinstall the 20gb on another system/ Does anyone know
how to do this. I want all the info on the 20gb to be placed on the 80gb.
The OS is XP pro. The drives are ATA or something like that. The 80gb is new
nothing on it.
Thank you in advance
Bob

Your best bet is probably to use some hard drive imaging software such
as DriveImage or Ghost. Simply copying all your files from one drive
to another won't work.

Installing more than one drive on a machine isn't difficult at all.
You can hook them up on their own IDE plug or gang them up on the same
one with a master/slave setup. You will have to set the jumpers on
the hard drives to match your actual configuration. The manuals that
come with your hard drive should outline this specifically.

Hey Jeffrey,
Did you read his question and understand it? Your an MS MVP and your telling
someone to ghost an XP HD so they can install it on another PC? Uh, pretty
Strange?

Try re-reading Bob's post. I see nothing that suggests he is
intending to use an image to circumvent WPA, as you imply.

What I see is Bob wants to upgrade a 20 GB hard drive to an 80 GB hard
drive in the same machine. That's a perfectly legitimate operation.
The 20 GB drive will be FORMATTED and moved to another machine.

Sorry if you find it strange that an MVP is answering a question for
someone, that's just part of what we do.

Hey Jeff, Not that big a deal I guess, but he says XP Pro is the OS, so why
would he need to copy the OS to his new drive, why not just install XP on
the new drive and then reinstall the programs, files, etc. Of course, you
would have to re activate it if you just install it. What might be the OS on
the 20gb when all is done. I see no mention of this.Yes, I know what MVP
means. I guess we read the post differently. Didn't mean to start a war
here, it still just seems , well, weird! And I get tired of people posting
how they lost their CDs, or some other baloney. I have a laptop and a
desktop and I bought 2 copies of XP Pro. This guy may be legit, I guess I am
just skeptical by nature.
sorry to bother you,
Frank

Maybe he wants to save the time and effort of having to reinstall
everything. It can take a long time.

No worries, Frank. I think we just approached the same posting with
different frames of mind. The fact that he wanted to format the 20 GB
drive after the copy tells me it's a hard drive upgrade, not an
attempt at stealing a copy. If it were the latter, WPA would put a
stop to that really quickly.

I do clean installs on my own machines about once a year (more if I'm
beta testing). I'm getting pretty fast at restoring everything, but
for many people the hassle of hunting down all those install CDs,
shareware downloads, etc. isn't worth the benefits of a clean install.

Hey Jeff,
I do the same, clean install about once a year. I need to be more
optomistic, instead of always looking at the bad side. I try to help here
when I can also. I will try to look on the bright side!
LLAP,
Frank L
