Two annoying problems in my new PC with Window XP

When I double click on an icon or folder, I mean to open
it but a SEARCH RESULTS screen comes on instead. I have to
right click and move down to OPEN before I can really open
the icon or folder. I see that when I right click, the
item on the top of the grey small screen is SEARCH,
followed by OPEN as the next item. What can I do to
eliminate the SEARCH screen from coming on in the first
place? I mean when I double click, the result should be to
open the file, not asking me to do a search first.

Another problem is that after I open an icon or folder,
there is a small window on the left called FOLDERS and the
Folder icon in the taskbar is always hightlighted. What
can I do to keep the Folders icon from being highlighted?

I will appreciate it very much if anyone with a solution
can please let me know ASAP. Thanks for your help.

Been there, done that. Downloadable fix at line 18, right. Works like
a charm.
