My XP Pro w/sp#1 has TweakUI ver2.10.0.0. I have checked "show windows version on desktop", but
after rebooting, many times, the version does not appear.
Can anyone point in a direction that I can make it appear on my desktop?

TweakUI
[+] General
Show windows version on desktop
[[This enables the display of the Windows version and monitor information
(if multiple monitors are installed) in the corner of every monitor. This is
a per-user setting. if you are running an evaluation version of Windows, the
version will always be displayed. If you have enabled Web content on the
desktop, the version will *never* be displayed. Changing this setting
requires a logoff.]]

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]
"PaintDesktopVersion"=dword:00000001

1 will show the Windows version on desktop
0 will not.

Wesley,

Thank you for your reply. I did all per the above, but the version still does not appear on my
desktop. What could I be doing wrong, or is there something missing that I should do?

Nicholas,

Do you have Web content enabled on the Desktop?
If yes, nothing you do will show the version on the Desktop.
To see if you do.........
Right click the Desktop | Properties | Desktop tab |
Customize Desktop | Is there a Web tab?? |
Click View my Active Desktop as a web page to remove the check mark next to
this menu command.

If you just want to see the XP version...........
Start | Run | Type: winver | OK

[[Instead of showing the Windows Version on the user's desktop, why not show
it on the desktop at the Windows logon screen.]]

Wesley,

My sincere thanks for replying to my problem. I , in final desperation, installed a backup of XP
and that cleared my problem. I just remembered that a few days ago, I downloaded several
security patches from the MS windows update site, and that is when my trouble began. Heaven only
knows what else could have been effected by the patches I downloaded.

Again, thank you.

Nicholas,

Keep having fun! ;-)
