In win XP pro, I can use TweaKUI to setup search prefixes . I failed to get
that in Win2000 pro.

Is there another way? IE is only 6 sp 1, no sp2 avail

Try asking them here. x-posted to: public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6.browser

there one slow one, I found by manually enter the key and sub key..etc for
HKEY_CurrentUser\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchUrl

importing only import the HKEY_CurrentUser\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\SearchUrl but subkeys for the search prefixes are ignored

there must be a better way

Do you have Tweak UI 1.33? A (weak) implication from Ed Bott
(among others) is that it might have similar functionality to the XP version.
E.g. what all is under its Internet Explorer tab?

(MSN search for
"tweak ui 1.33" "windows 2000" search "Address bar" "internet explorer"
)

Yes. An IE5 Web Accessory called Quick Search.exe
(Note the space in the name.)

Good luck

thx for reply

Looks like I got the tweaked.exe v1.33

However, the tweaked.exe is just a WinZip self extractor

I forced the files TweakUI.cnt, TweakUI.cpl, TweakUI.hlp, TweakUI.inf) into
%windir%\system32 . After reboot I did see the TweakUI item in the control
panel choices.

as for the IE tab, there is nothing for search. only check boxes for
options that look more like windows explorer.

Is there another tweakui version for windows 2000? or another utility that
would force the searchUrl in registry

for example
[HKEY_CurrentUser\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchUrl\googlems]
" "="+"
"+"="%2B"
"%"="%25"
"&"="%26"
"#"="%23"

Basically for each search prefix the above differs only by the search prefix
in the key and the url value for the @="blah blah"

Oh, registry import works if the search prefix key was exported by windows
2000 and modified

As Robert said, Quick Search is probably your best bet. Although
advertized for IE 5.x, it works just as well with IE6. It's part of the
Web Accessories package available at
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie6/previous/webaccess/ie5wa.mspx.

thank you all.

I did not look at the web accessories and that does have the feature I want.
the only reason I am hesitant is that I saw the caveat - recommended only
for IE5 and I got Ie6 sp1

They work perfectly well with IE SP1, and probably S2 as well.
