I some how turned off my windows update by administration.. I go to the
Windows Update site and I get this error:

[Error number: 0x8DDD0003]
Network policy settings prevent you from using Windows Update to download
and install updates on your computer. If you believe you have received this
message in error, please check with your system administrator.

The error message reads: Network policy settings prevent you from using
Windows Update to download and install updates. This error may occur if the
Remove access to use all Windows Update features group policy has been
enabled by your system administrator.

How do I turn it back on with service pack 2.

Hi

Try this:

Start/Run ==> regedit.exe

Under the registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
\Policies\Explorer

delete the value "NoWindowsUpdate" if it exist.

Under the registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
\Policies\Windows Update

delete the value "DisableWindowsUpdateAccess" if it exist.

Under the registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
\Group Policy Objects\LocalUser\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Policies\Windows Update

delete the value "DisableWindowsUpdateAccess" if it exist.

If the above values was not found:

Do a global registry search (in regedit.exe) for registry values with name
NoWindowsUpdate
and
DisableWindowsUpdateAccess

and delete if found.

"I delete the keys and now it's working .
"thanks

I have the same problem however when I tried to accomplish the reccomended
edits to the registry I found that under Hkey_current_ users\...\current
Version\Policies\ (windows update) does not exist. Under
Hkey_current_user\Software\...\current version (no Group Policy Objects\...)
does not exist. When I did the global search I found no "NoWindowsUpdate"
nor "DisableWindowsUpdateAccess" Any hints of what may be wrong?

Hi

See if this helps:

Windows Update Greyed Out - Restore (Line 179)

I am sorry but I am a little dense. I do not understand what it is that you
are suggesting

Ignore my response, I figured oout what you meant, I followed the link to
179 downloaded it and ran it. Restarted Windows and tried Windows Update
again. I still get essentially the same error message except this time it
shows as 0x8DDD0002 instead of 0003.

Open IE, when you get there, click on Help/About - is the box with the
information empty? If so, it's a problem with Windows scripting. I had
this happen on one SP2 box, it somehow removed/disabled Windows Scripting
and it could not do updates or many other normal functions. Once I was
able to get the XP version of Windows scripting installed everything
worked fine.
