Turning on from Hibernate....

Hibernate is a Complete shutdown of power (unlike 'standby') If your system
is powering up, it's probably doing it due to a power interruption of some
kind.

Those nights that I don't turn my computer off entire but rather put it into
hibernate I wake up in the morning to discover something has turned my
computer back on. I have a 2.2 GHZ P4 Celeron HP Pavillion running XP Home
SP2 with all uptodate patches. I don't have a virus. I've done a thorough
scan and in investigating it have disconnected my cable modem so ET can't
call home. I had a scheduled virus task in scheduled tasks but it was
unchecked that it should wake up the computer to perform the task.

Question: How do I go about determining what's turning my computer on from
hibernate each night? Thanks ahead of time...

Find out if it happens when you do a complete power shutdown. If not, my
guess would be that the system is actually in a 'standby' condition, and is
waking on some input. The event viewer might give you the time of the restart.

But how can that be? None of the clocks (all of them are electric) are out.
The time on all of them is fine. A power outage doesn't flick the switch on
the computer....

Pardon my stupidity...but where do I find the Event Viewer?

you could also take a look at the Scheduled Task log to see if something is causing it to turn back on.
