I want my son to turn off his computer when it is not
being used for extended periods of time......like
overnight or if he is out for the day.
He tells me it will damage the computer if it is turned
off and on all the time.
I know nothing about computers.

Any info on this would be very helpful.

Thanks

It will not damage your computer in any way to shut it
down when you are not using it. Just make sure u shut it
down from within Windows and not just press the power
button on the computer.

before, its an idea that it is better to leave the
computer on rather than turning it off, but it doesnt mean
that this can cause damage, as long as it is properly
shutdown. its okay to shut it down when not in used but
shut it down properly. goodluck...

I leave mine on at all times other than when there are lightning storms in the
vicinity. The reason I do that is that I live on the coast and the ambient air
is usually quite humid and salt laden. Leaving the computer running generates
heat and prevents condensation and the damage it can cause.
