Turning off win xp

Can anyone help me.?.everytime i turn off windows xp instead of going off
automticaly it says its safe to turn off you're computer,,but when i push
the on and off button on the front of the computer it does nothing..the only
way i can turn it off is by the main switch on the back or unplug it !

Try holding the button in for 10 seconds.
