Turning off the Touch Pad

I used to have an icon for the touchpad in the bottom right corner of my
screen on the toolbar next to the clock. It is no longer there, nor is it
hidden because it's inactive. How, then, do I go about turning off the touch
pad? How do I access the controls for it?
 
Well, I assume you have a laptop but you provide no information . Try going
to the control panel and see if there is something there pertaining to your
touchpad.
