Turning off small preview of incoming mail

Each new message I get is previewed in a translucent
small rectangle in the lower right hand corner. How can
I turn that off?

Either:

(1) You have a rule that opens the alert window when new e-mail arrives, so
you'll have to check your rule(s).

(2) You're asking about MSN/Yahoo/AOL Messenger and NOT about Outlook at
all.

However, as far as I can tell, I have no rules or alerts
at all. And I'm definitely not referring to aol/msn/or
another other messager or p2p.

If you are using OL2003, Tools->Options->E-mail Options->Advanced:'when new
mail arrives in my inbox'.

You MUST mention which version of Outlook you are using. The obvious reason
for versions is that each provides an enhanced or different feature set.
I'm using OL2002. I haven't bothered to waste my money or time on OL2003
because it gives me no bang for the buck. Maybe that's what you are using.
