Is it possible to disable the audible mail notification that is heard when
starting Outlook 2003? If so, how? This has proven to be very annoying!

Go to your Inbox.
On the Menu click Tools-Options
Click the Preferences Tab
Click E-mail Options
Click Advanced E-mail Options
Remove the tick next to "Play a Sound"

Thank you for your response. I should have clarified that what I get is a
verbal announcement (in English) stating how many unread emails I currently
have and also telling me that I have new mail. Also, the "play sound" box
was already un-checked (I tried that one a while back). Is this perhaps a
3rd party add-on and not a component of Outlook? This is a new Toshiba
Qosmio laptop.

Cheers,
Pete

The Toshiba Voice application is the culprit, not Outlook.
