Turn off slave computer on network

I have two computers (I'll call these the main computers) on a network, and I
added a third one that I use just for backups. I would like to not have to
attach a monitor to the third computer, and would like to be able to turn it
off using commands sent from either of the two main computers. I'm using Win
XP Pro. Is there any way to do this?

TIA.

You can connect to the third computer using Remote Desktop and turn it
off by pressing Alt-F4 at the desktop.

Microsoft has a new product in beta testing that might interest you.
Windows Home Server automates the process of backing up multiple
computers over a network to a headless server, and transmits and
stores backups in a highly efficient way. For more information, see:

Steve:

I was not aware of Remote Desktop---learn something new every day. I will
download it and study it as well as the beta product.

Thanks for your prompt response.

You don't have to download Remote Desktop -- it's built into Windows
XP.

On the server, enable Remote Desktop in Control Panel > System >
Remote. On the clients, run Remote Desktop Connection in Start > All
Programs > Accessories.
Thanks for your prompt response.

You're welcome.

Jack:

I downloaded Smart_Shutdown. Am I right in thinking that in order to instal
it on the "slave" backup computer, I have to be accessing the slave computer
directly, i.e., I cannot instal it from one of the other two computers that I
use.

TIA
