"Turn off" is no longer powering down

It seems to be going into standby mode. With some fans still running and the CD R/W light on.
Until last weekend it always powered down to a silent state with, I think, just a power light blinking to indicate mains power still
present.
Did the last update cause this?

Not sure what you are telling me..
On my page is says when pushing button - shutdown.
What I am saying is that at present and since the weekend it is no longer shutting down but going into a sort of standby mode
with some fans still running ( I suspect the processor) and a couple of lights still on.
I've also checked and restored the earlier BIOS power settings
