Turn off corrections

I am currently transcribing very old letters using Office Word 2003. I need
to write them exactly as written. Is there any way to turn off the automatic
corrections? Word will place capitals and punctuation where there are none
in the original letters. Thanks,

In Tools | AutoCorrect Options there are several check boxes that can be
cleared; also consider all the options on the AutoFormat As You Type tab;
you may want to clear most or all of these as well.
