hello all,
i'm trying to join my winxp box to an active directory domain hosted
on my win 2k3 server. i have created objects for my user account and
client machine. however, when i go to join the client to the domain,
after a five-minute timeout, it says, 'the operation could not be
completed'. i am completely at a loss as to why. any suggestions?

TIA

First, we're talking XP Pro here and NOT XP Home, is that correct? Second,
confirm that you're logged on using your domain user account, not a local
user or Administrator account.

Next, right-click My Computer and select Properties. Click the Network ID
button on the Computer Name tab and follow the "part of a business network"
dialog path. After you have completed the Network Identification Wizard,
click the Change button to bring up the Computer Name Changes dialog. It
should list your computer name and indicate your computer is a member of
your domain name.

If all that fails...

On the server, remove the computer from active directory, then re-add the
computer to active directory.

I did these steps and got the following error:

'Your computer could not be joined to the domain because the following
error occurred: The network path was not found.'

In TCP/IP properties, make sure that the DNS is pointing to DNS on
your W2K3 server!
