I am trying to install a game - I have an XP system, and
I am getting an error saying the game has detected
Windows NT, but it needs Windows 9X. Is there a way to
bypass this, or run two different versions of Windows at
the same time? Please reply to (e-mail address removed) -
thanks. :)

We answer posts in the newsgroup so people can read before posting questions
and hopefully learn. Go into Help and Support and do a Search for
Compatibility Mode. There's lots of information in there, and also here:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tr...et/prodtechnol/winxppro/maintain/lgcyapps.asp
Make sure you check with the game's web site for updates, too. Most of the
older games have at least one update available to install prior to
attempting to run the game.

....though that seems like a lost cause many times....

Candy:

My advise is get yourself some other games that are
compatible with XP. I had some bad experiences with a few
of my older games when I reloaded them after shifting to
XP.

Yeah, that's it, give up before giving any useful advice...

For the original poster:
Go to "My computer." Right click on the CD ROM drive, hit "Explore." Find
the Setup program (normally just called Setup, some 95 era games may have
somethign like Setup95.) Right click that, pick "Properties," and
"Compatibility mode." Pick "Run in compatibility mode for..." and choose
Windows 95 or 98.

I've found one or two from that period from Sierra (like Cyberstorm) that
give problems when they test the system for compatibility - just skip the
test. I'm sure your system is faster than a 486/66 by now. :)
