I incorrectly named my 2000 server. It's DNS name is
domainname.local rather than domainname.com. Exchange
server is installed on this machine, so when an email
message is sent from domain, the headers show the server
name as server.domainname.local. I know from experience
that SPAM filtering services are denying email from this
domain.

I know that I cannot change the DNS name of this computer
without upgrading it to 2003, but I was wondering if it
would be possible to temporarily introduce a 2003 server
to the domain, change the DNS name, then remove the 2003
server.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thanks

Tom

Is your recipient policy set up properly for your Internet mail domain, and
does domain's public DNS specify a reverse-lookup record for your mail
server/MX record?

In ESM, you can set up a masquerade domain name....find the properties of
your default SMTP virtual server, delivery tab, advanced button, and you can
change the fully-qualified domain name to match your Internet mail domain
name. See MS KB 314331 for help.

Probably best if you post in microsoft.public.exchange.admin for more
help/clarification/whatnot.
