trying to do office updates thru office.microsoft.com

look for the link somewhere
on those updates pages and
open up a ticket...

nope. when i try to access the upates via office.microsoft.com it says
that i am using a macintosh. (i just bought my machine last month,
its an hp7570)

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing Messenger Plus, whose ads for
malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you
owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.
 
ran spybot, adaware, and even microsoft anti spy (as well as spysweeper
and norton which came pre-installed) - all came up clean; even disabled
spysweeper and norton prior to attempting to go to updates.

a MCE bug ?
 
If you goto http://web-sniffer.net/ and type in
http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/about.aspx?ln=en
What does it say under User Agent?

Hopefully it doesn't say you are a Mac...
