Thanks to those that wrote me before. I bought the XP Professional Edition,
and now when i attempt to repair install using the CD, the computer will just
shut off during the process. this has happened 3 times. Any suggestions?
below is my previous post:
If your computer is shutting off during the repair process, you probably
have hardware issues. If you didn't backup your data, it can be
retrieved even though you can't get into Windows - assuming that your
hard drive is not physically failing. You can pull the drive and either
put it in an external enclosure or slave it and attach to a working XP
box. Copy the data off that way. A good way to determine if the problem
is software or hardware is to boot with a rescue system such as Knoppix
or a Bart's PE. If your computer won't stay up for the rescue system,
your hardware is faulty.

Retrieving the data and doing hardware troubleshooting requires having
some additional equipment and a fairly high level of computer skills.
You know yourself best; if you don't have these things take the machine
to a professional computer repair shop. This will not be your local
version of BigStoreUSA.
