I have a basic workgroup with 3 PCs connected to a router and broadband cable connection. One XP Pro (SP1A with all updates loaded) workstation will not connect to the other PCs. It works fine on the Net. I'm using it now. I can ping the other PCs from it, but cannot ping it from the other PCs. I have run the wizard but no joy. The router is the DHCP server and has 192.168.1.1. The faulty PC is 192.168.1.101. The PCs that are working fine are 192.168.100 and 192.168.103. Both are running Windows 2000 SP4. I have tried one to one networking with other XP machines with the same results. I have tried different NICs. ICF is disabled
Any ideas would be very welcome. Thanks in advance.

except ics, do you have another firewall software? quoted form

One-way ping only

If you can ping other computers and other computers can't ping your
computer, this is often caused by an improperly configured firewall
on you computer.

make sure you run the network setup wizard on the other computers. If they aren't xp computers then make a network setup disk and run that on the other computers. Make sure you can ping the other computers also.

Ian,

Does the faulty PC have any third party firewalls installed on it?

From the faulty PC:
1) Ping itself by name.
2) Ping itself by ip address.
3) Ping 127.0.0.1.

Try swapping LAN cable and router port with one of the working PCs.

Please post ipconfig from the faulty PC, and from one working PC. Start - Run -
"ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" - Open c:\ipconfig.txt in Notepad, copy and
paste into your next post.

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

Thanks to Mike, Robert L and Chuck. PC Cillan was running with personal firewall enabled. I disabled it. Talk about a trap for young players! What a shame I'm not young

Thank you all very much for your help.

Have a great weekend.

Another case of a personal firewall blocking file sharing. Thanks for the
update, Ian.
