troubleshooting a e-mail problem

I am having problems with my isp and need to have Outlook try to send mail
out only one time for trouble shooting purposes. Currently I believe it
continues trying till sent as the time stamp is 8 minutes later.
Is there a way to set this parameter?

Enable the troubleshooting log in Outlook. It creates an OPM.log
logfile. You can look inside the logfile to see what SMTP commands it
is sending and what status it gets back from the mail host. If you have
multiple e-mail accounts, disable all but the problematic one. The
logfile is harder to read if Outlook is accessing multiple accounts.

If you have Outlook configured to send automatically (i.e., poll
interval is enabled) then start Outlook, send, and then exit Outlook as
soon as the item disappears from the Outbox. Or disable mail polling
and just do a manual mail poll. Then go look at the log.

When the item disappears from the Outbox folder (and moved to the Sent
Items folder), it has been sent. There is nothing later for Outlook to
send. Does your Outlook actually wait 8 minutes to complete a mail
session? Not likely. Why do you care if the *mail server* doesn't send
for another 8 minutes? You haven't sent your e-mail anywhere other than
to your sending mail server. You are running an e-mail client, not a
server. It is up to the mail server to decide when it will attempt to
deliver your e-mail that you gave it. Take a look at the Received
headers in an e-mail that you send to yourself; however, use a different
account to receive the test e-mail as routing of e-mails within the same
e-mail provider may not reflect how long it takes for that service to
begin delivery to OTHER accounts than yours (i.e., sending to yourself
might show the test e-mail is delivered immediately whereas there is a
delay if the e-mail has to be delivered to an account other than the
account from where it got sent).

Thanks for the hints and suggestions. I am having no problems with Outlook
but was using it as a tool to troubleshoot problems in OE6 and webmail. It
helped a lot. Believe I have it fixed..
