When i try to open a large database, about 60mb, my system
performance is going down and it takes about 60-90 min
till access is available again.

old config: about 1 min to load
p3 800, 160mb ram, win 2k, office 2k

new config: about 60-90 min to load
p4 , 512mb, win xp, office 2003

we ve the same troubles with a win xp and office xp system

any suggestions please to (e-mail address removed)

60 MB isn't a particularly large database, and your experience certainly
isn't normal.

Are you having problems with any other applications on the new machine?

What anti-virus software are you running?

no anti virus
smaller mdb 20-30 mb work fine
i ve this problem also on another machine running with win
xp
same issue there
but the same mdb works fine on winnt and 2k systems

I take it the access file is being accessed across the
network? If it is check the LAN connection on the XP box to
make sure the built-in software firewall is disabled. You
will find this on the advanced tab of the LAN connection
properties.

Generally, when using a new network, then there are issues of security that
come into play (you likely also upgraded to a complete different OS setup
here at the same time, and that is likely to blame here).

If you use a mde, does anything change?

Further, have you turned off options like track name autocorrect?

And, the best solution is to keep a persistent connection open to the
database from the work station (and, of course, you are running a split
database..right?).

Assuming that you have a good basic ms-access setup (if any of the above
suggesting is a surprise, then you do not have a good setup).

Anyway, check out the following check list:

Going through the above check list should get your performance back, and in
fact even to a better level since you have better hardware now....

This shouldn't be a problem. Or rather there might be some settings
within it that contribute to the problem but I wouldn't ever recommend
disabling a firewall.

For example Kerio, the firewall I currently use, has Microsoft
Networking specific settings. Once enabled they work quite well on my
local network subnet but refuse all connects from outside 192.168.0.x
