Trouble with network

For some reason, I cannot connect to the other computers in my workgroup from
this computer, and vice-versa. This is kind of crucial, since I have a lot
of data I need to transport from my old computer (no CD-RW drive) to my new
one.

Any help would be appreciated.

Please help us help you. Post a news group reply with a description
of how you've set up your network hardware and software, how you're
trying to connect to other computers, and what exactly happens when
you do it. Include the complete text of all error messages.

Can any of the computers access each other?

Are there hardware or software firewalls that might be blocking
access?

How do your computers get their IP addresses?

What is the IP address of this computer?

The more details you give, the more likely it is that someone can
help.

First things first:
- have you check that the computer in question can connect to the network?
can you ping the other ones or go to the internet?

- what operating system are you using in the computers?
- create shares and have an account with same name and password in all
computers to facilitate the access.

I can't connect to the Workgroup for some reason, but I can access the
internet just fine.

Windows XP Home in the other ones, XP Professional in this one (the one with
problems)
