one last thing,,,sometime the modem isnt detected, --satrt --control
panel--phone and modem icon, slelect modem and then click properties, click
diagnostics, then query modem,, you should see "success" come up in the
little window several time, with other features of the modem, like v92,
driver version ect,, make sure you Modem has the latest driver, "lucent win
modem" about $9.00 agere chipset is the
best on the market all others are lost without a compass, Lucent + agere
being part of ATT ,ect is made according to the exacting standards of the
telephone companies, thus get priority over all other modems on the telephone
line system, I found this ouit when I switched to a generic one-not agere and
the connection slowed, reinstalled agere, speed went up, they kick off there
preferred network, less then there own standards,,lol
 
to do diagnostics,,,,on the modem, cant be online,, port has to be closed, as
it opens it to run its testing program,,WinXP that is,,,lol
