I can hear audio, but it hisses, pops, sounds
scratchy, slows or sometimes drops in and out. This
happens at any time but is very much pronounced when I
open another application such as Outlook Express. This
happens in any playback application including WMP, MMJB,
Real, audio CD's. I have downloaded the latest version
of the sound driver (Avance now RealTek ac97.)

My computer is a Medion 1294, P4, 2.66 GHz, Windows XP
Home, with plenty of space left on everything.

Thanks for any ideas.

I assume you have on-board sound ?

Try turning on error correction in WMP - Tools > Options > Devices > Click
on your CD drive and then Properties. Re-boot. This may however cause CD-Rom
reading problems.

Failing that, you might have buggy drivers. Try completely (including the
registry, back it up first) deleting all references to your sound card and
its drivers then re-install.

If that fails disable your on-board sound in the bios and get a cheap
soundblaster - 24 Euros here in France.

Cheers,
Jerry

Jerry,

Thanks for your reply. I'll try completely removing all
references to the sound card driver and reinstall.

If all else fails, I'll buy a Soundblaster.
