Trouble with home networking

We've got two computer in our house. They're both connecting to the internet
through a router.
On the other machine that worked fine I created a folder (My
Documents/Transfers) and shared it across the network. Then I used NET USE
from the DOS Prompt to create a Z drive to connect to the folder from my
computer. (Found it in the KB articles :-) )
My problem is that when I try and do the same thing for my computer, I can't
share the folder. The checkboxes for Networking Sharing and Security are
grayed out.
I've played with a bunch of settings and I've turned off a bunch of
services. What services are required for network sharing and/or is there
anything that needs to be done in the control panel?
I'm on WinXP Pro.
