trouble setting up EWF

Can you guys tell me if I am doing something wrong?

I have included the 3 essential EWF components. I have configured it
to use disk 0, partition 1. Overlay type is DISK. EWF partition
size is about 35,000k (~350MB). Max # protected volume is 1, and max
# overlay is 1.

The target disk is 1.0 GB drive, with first 504MB as a primary
partition, formated with fat16 with DOS 6.22. The rest of 500 MB or
so is unallocated free space left which I was expecting the EWF to
format/create the EWF volume during FBA.

But when the FBA runs it did not show any indication of formatting a
new volume.

The system runs normally, and I run ewfmgr.exe it says "unable to find
ewf volume". I trying to run ewfmgr C: and it says failed getting
protected volume configuration with error 1.

Doesn't seem like the EWF is in place at all.

What have I done wrong?

Did you make sure that there wasn't a pre-existing EWF volume on your disk?
If you had previously attempted to use an image that included EWF
previously, the EWF volume needs to be removed before trying a new image on
the system.

I don't think that using FAT16 would present any issues with EWF, but maybe
you can try formatting the disk as FAT32 instead and see what happens. Also,
did you use the bootprep tool on your FAT16 formatted disk?

Just some thoughts. Also, check the fbalog.txt file in \Windows\fba.

Sorry I did leave out a few details, but after some google searching
it seems they are very important information.

- The hard disk that I have is actually a Sandisk 1.0G CF card thru
the IDE ribbon, in XP they are marked as "removable disk".. I didn't
think much about that at first! but this seems like a big issue, as I
can't create multiple paritions at all in the disk management in XP
pro or Win2000. I believe XPe is running into the same problem,
because it is removable it does not know how to handle multiple
partitions.

- Looking in the FBA log it says EWFOpen returned the "invalid handle"

I found many posts about this kind of scenario but no definite
solution yet. How can I get XP to think my CF card is
"non-removable"?

Mean while I am trying to put 2 disk, on the primary and secondary IDE
channel, primary has fully allocated partition and secondary has no
partition, hopefully the EWF will be smart enough to use the 2nd disk
during FBA

Ok, I got it to work after Sandisk send me the utility to mark the
disk as fixed.. I have an disk type overlay now.
