Trouble Opening archived pst files after re-installing XP

I've re-stalled XP Home Edition after wiping my hard drive and after
restalling MS Office XP/ Outlook 2002, I am unable to import the backed
up pst files I made prior to the wipe. Outlook recongizes them as
Office Data Files which I have learned from Microsoft is a blip in
their designation of files ( see :
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=287837 ). After re-designating the
files as Outlook Data Files, I still have the same problem and cannot
import or open the pst file in Outlook. I've also tried to import .cvs
file from Palm Desktop from another computer as a alternative and
Outlook translator doesn't recognize the comma seperated values file.
Any ideas? It was all working fine before the wipe and I re-installed
XP Home Edition.

Any help would be great thanks ; )

How did you copy them? Was Outlook open when you did? Were are they now?
Have you removed the read-only attribute? Have you run SCANPST on them?
What error message do you get when you try to open them?

By the way, don't import a PST.

When I copied I made an archive folder with the destination as an
external drive to the computer. Outlook was open. When attempting to
open--I copied the pst file to the hard of the the computer and still
have copy on the external drive. I ran the SCANPST and it said that
there were no errors with 5 folders and 0 items so I fear the file may
be corrupted some how. The read only attribute is unchecked. I do not
get a error message when I try to open them I only get an archive
folder opening with nothing in it. As for the the seperate cvs file
that I created in Palm desktop when I try to import the file in
Outlook, I get an error stating the Outlook Translator cannot read the
file and it may be corrupted.

Thanks for your help---is the situation dire?

This is probably why you cannot open the PST. You can't reliably copy an
open PST. Outlook MUST be closed when you copy a PST. Your PST is toast.

I feared you would say that. Oh well. Any ideas on how to get my Palm
Desktop files into Outlook? That's still a viable option.

With a new PST in Outlook, can you sync your Palm, replacing Outlook's
contents with the contents of the PDA?
